Derril Water Solar Park is the UK’s largest community-owned solar farm, located near Pyworthy, Devon.

About the Project
Derril Water Solar Park is a 42 MWp solar farm containing over 68,000 solar modules capable of generating renewable energy sufficient to power around 14,000 homes annually.
A distinctive feature of the site is its dual-purpose land use. Once operational, much of the area will be managed through sheep grazing.
In addition to its agricultural benefits, Derril Water Solar Park is committed to ecological enhancement. The project will establish and enhance high-value habitats including species rich grassland and hedgerows and additional native tree planting. These habitats will support a variety of wildlife by providing nesting and foraging opportunities for birds and refuge for reptiles and amphibians.
Derril Water represents one of the largest community investments in UK history. The co-op raised over £20 million through the participation of almost 10,000 households and small businesses.
Originally managed by Ripple Energy (which entered administration in March 2025) the project remains on schedule to begin energy production in summer 2025.
